Lex Machina

Lex Machina is a legal analytics platform, now part of LexisNexis, that mines litigation data — federal district and appellate courts, PTAB proceedings, and expanding state court coverage — to reveal patterns in how judges rule, how opposing counsel litigates, and how similar cases have resolved. It grew out of research at Stanford Law School and Stanford's Computer Science department before being acquired by LexisNexis.

Firms use it to benchmark performance against competitors, prepare pitch decks that demonstrate track record before a specific judge, and forecast case timelines using motion-level data. It's widely regarded as best-in-class for federal litigation analytics, particularly in patent and IP work, though pricing isn't published and requires a sales conversation.
